Families who love to browse independent bookstores now have a new option in downtown Whitby.
Curious Fox Bookshop, which took a quick week-long break following its summer soft launch, just celebrated its grand opening earlier this week.
A newsletter issued by the shop’s operator calls the new store “the place to be” for people with young readers in their lives.

According to the newsletter, Curious Fox aims to provide the community with a well-curated selection of books that appeal to children of all ages, offering everything from board books for infants and toddlers to YA titles for adolescent literature fans.
The letter says the shop’s name is meant to pay homage to curiosity, which is something every reader has.
“Why the fox? It’s what they do: sniff, seek, explore – in a word, they’re curious! Exactly what a reader should be,” the letter reads, adding that reading can make children more compassionate and thoughtful.
As far as products go, the shop titles from a number of ever-popular franchises, including Dog Man, The Babysitter’s Club, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and more. The website also mentions books by Sandra Boynton, Aaron Blabey, Eric Carle, Robert Munsch, Dr. Seuss and other authors.
The shop is open Tuesday to Saturday.
