SIU investigates after Brampton pedestrian struck by police car

The investigation into a crash between a police cruiser and a civilian vehicle in Oshawa in the spring has been ended since the civilian driver was not seriously hurt.

The civilian driver, an 86-year-old woman, was driving eastward on Rossland Rd. on May 28, according to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which looked into the crash. The woman had a green light as she approached the Ritson Rd. intersection.

As she entered the intersection so did a southbound Durham Regional Police cruiser through the red light. The two cars collided in the intersection. The woman was taken to hospital where she was diagnosed with soft tissue injuries.

The SIU was called in to investigate. However, their jurisdiction includes “serious injuries” sustained during interactions with police. Since the woman’s injuries were deemed not serious, the SIU dropped the investigation on Aug. 17 after reviewing the her medical records.
