Jennifer O’Connell will be returning to Ottawa after the Liberal MP – first elected in 2015 – won her seat in the Pickering-Uxbridge Riding by more than 5,500 votes over Conservative candidate Jacob Mantle.

O’Connell’s share of the popular vote slipped below 50 per cent for the first time, though she still earned 46.6 of the votes.

O’Connell, who was a long-time municipal councillor in Pickering before taking a run at federal politics, earned 25,204 votes with 155 of 161 polls reporting. Mantle recorded 19,636 votes and NDP candidate Eileen – herself a former Pickering councillor – scored 7,060.

Corneliu Chisu, who once held this riding for the Conservatives, earned 2,232 votes running for the PPC.
