A new report featuring the least expensive home sold in Durham Region last month features Brock, Oshawa, Pickering, and Whitby.
Every month the real estate tracker Zoocasa highlights the most and least expensive home sold in Ontario, broken down by Region. Oshawa and Whitby dominated July’s most expensive list, but also feature on the least expensive.
The fifth least expensive place is 139 Laidlaw St N in Brock. The modest single-family home sold for $589,000 on July 25, a significant jump from its last sale price of $275,000 in 2019.
The home sits just north of Cannington and is a short journey away from Beaver River which surrounds the town. It features three bedrooms, one bathroom and a three-car garage.
In fourth place is Unit 506 in The Rowe at 1600 Charles St in south Whitby. The condo sits on the former site of Rowe House, the former home on Whitby’s first Mayor James Rowe.
(As an aside, Rowe was built in 1865 and picked up and moved to the lakeshore in 1999 to make room for the condo. It’s now amidst major renovations to host a restaurant.)
The open-concept condo features one bedroom and one bathroom in a central location in Port Whitby. The building also features numerous amenities including an exercise room, rooftop patio with a fire pit and BBQ, indoor pool, party room, security guard, and billiards room. The unit sold for $465,000.
Third is condo unit 217 in 1480 Bayly St. in Pickering. The 17-storey Universal City Condos building sits right by the Liverpool Road Highway 401 on-ramp and within walking distance from the Pickering GO Station. This unit sold for $440,000, about $40,000 over asking.
It features one bedroom and one bathroom and “includes an open concept kitchen, living, and dining area that bathes in natural light, flowing seamlessly to a generous-sized balcony,” according to Zoocasa.
Fourth place is Unit 303 in 1800 Simcoe Street, a condo building up near Durham College. The building features several restaurants underneath. This bachelor pad unit doesn’t have a separate bedroom and features one bathroom. It sold for $320,000 on Aug. 2, just 15 hours before this writing.
Finally, the most affordable unit sold in Durham is just up the street from the last. It’s Unit 842 in 1900 Simcoe St N, even closer to the college. The building backs right up against the College’s residence building. This unit is also a bachelor pad without a stand-alone bedroom and features a single bathroom.
Like 1800 Simcoe St, 1900 also features several restaurants on the ground floor.
