Oshawa captain Ty Tullio scored twice to lead the Generals past Barrie 3-1 Sunday at the Tribute Centre

The Oshawa Generals got the perfect weekend they needed, highlighted by a shootout win over the Ontario Hockey League’s best team on Friday night, followed by a sweep of the Barrie Colts Saturday and Sunday.

The weekend didn’t start out perfect as the Generals found themselves down 3-0 in Mississauga heading into the third against the number one Steelheads. We got ‘em right where we want ‘em, the club might have said in the intermission, because Oshawa came out firing in the third, using goals by Brett Harrison, Ryan Stepien and Oskar Olausson to force an extra frame.

The game would go to shootout and Patrick Leaver stopped nine shots in one of the longest shootouts in recent memory before Ryan Gagnier potted the winner for the Generals.

Leaver and Gagnier combined to be the heroes again Saturday night in Barrie, with Gagnier scoring the game’s only goal and Leaver stopping all 31 shots for his second shutout of the season.

The next night Barrie travelled south for the re-match and got on the board first, but the Generals scored three unanswered goals – two by captain Ty Tullio, including his 20th of the season – to come away with a 3-1 victory. Gagnier continued his hot weekend by scoring the winner in this one, with Lleyton Moore adding two assists. Zach Paputsakis got the call between the pipes and made 29 saves for the win.

Oshawa is now 21-16-3 on the year, good for third in the East Division, six points behind first place Kingston.
