Loaded gun found during Port Perry traffic stop

A 19-year-old man faces numerous charges after police seized a handgun during a traffic stop in Port Perry Thursday night.
On Thursday, June 24 an officer with Durham Police’s North Division conducted a traffic stop near Simcoe Street and Greenway Boulevard. Investigation revealed that the lone occupant of the vehicle was in contravention of the Cannabis Act. As that investigation continued officers located a loaded a firearm.
Lemount Bailey-Benjamin of Oshawa faces numerous firearm and other related charges, including possess loaded restricted/prohibited firearm; occupy motor vehicle with firearm and possess restricted/prohibited firearm no licence or registration certificate.
He was held for a bail hearing.
