Knife wielding suspect charged after road rage incident in Ajax

An early morning traffic stop in Whitby resulted in gun charges for a local man after an open bottle of liquor found near the driver’s seat prompted a search of the vehicle.

The loaded handgun was found near the back street.

Durham Police say they initiated the stop just before 2 a.m. Monday near Brock St. N. and Wallace Drive. While speaking with the driver, officers observed an open container of liquor near the driver’s seat. The vehicle was subsequently searched under the Liquor Licence and Control Act and a handgun was located.

The gun was seized and the 37-year-old, a Whitby resident, was taken into custody without incident.

Jason Campbell is charged with three counts of possession of a loaded and restricted firearm and having open liquor in the car while driving. He was held for a bail hearing.
