Pickering Animal Services is hosting a low-cost Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Clinic at the Chestnut Hill Recreation Complex in downtown Pickering on November 16.
The clinic, presented in partnership with the Durham Region Health Department and Millennium City Veterinary Hospital, will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the service priced at $30.
Vaccinating pets against rabies and using microchips are crucial steps to ensure their safety. The rabies vaccine prevents animals from contracting the disease if they encounter a rabid animal while the microchip is a form of identification that carries a unique ID number, significantly increasing the chances that a lost pet will be reunited with its owner.
“As responsible pet owners, it’s our duty to create a safe environment for everyone in our community – both people and pets,” said Lindsey Narraway, Supervisor, Animal Services. “By keeping your pet’s vaccinations up-to-date and ensuring they’re microchipped, you not only protect their health, but ensure if your pet goes missing – there’s a greater chance you’ll be reunited.”
This is a drop-in clinic, and no registration is required. Attendees can park in the back near the arena entrance and arrive with pets on a leash or in a carrier.
All dogs must be leashed, and cats must be in carriers. Dogs must comply with the local bylaws that declare that dogs with characteristics similar to a Pit Bull must wear a muzzle.
Cash payments are preferred, alternative payment options will be available. Visit pickering.ca/rabies to learn more.
