Major accident on Highway 401 in Clarington, Ontario

A collision on a major highway in Clarington is backing up traffic on Friday evening (July 12).

The multi-vehicle crash happened in the centre lane of westbound Highway 401 just past Harmony Road around 7:15 p.m., according to one witness.

Police and Clarington Fire Crews had yet to arrive on the scene as of time of this report just minutes after the crash.

Major delays are likely as vehicles on the westbound 401 were beginning to bunch up and slow down.

Commuters are advised to avoid the area for the next while until emergency crews clear the scene and police are done their investigation.
