Major construction has started on busy roadways in Pickering. Lane restrictions are in place and traffic delays are anticipated until the end of the year.
The Durham municipality says the work will involve installing watermains and sanitary sewers, adding a new median island and intersection and improving the boulevard.
The restrictions will begin on Brock Road from Alexander Knox Road (Whitevale Road/5th Concession Road) to 500 metres north of Ashe Avenue, near the Pickering GO Bus carpool parking lot.
The work began on July 29 and will continue until December 2024. However, the city notes on its website that unfavourable weather conditions may impact the completion date.
The Region acknowledges the potential disruption and assures that efforts will be made to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are urged to exercise caution to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and work crews.
