Major makeover for community park in Ajax begins this year

The Town of Ajax is set to transform one of its oldest parks into a vibrant hub for community activities with new amenities and upgrades.
The Exeter Park Retrofit project, recently approved by the Ajax Council, aims to enhance this beloved green space located southeast of Kings Crescent and Exeter Road.
The park, named after the World War II heavy cruiser HMS Exeter, has long been a cornerstone of the community. However, its existing infrastructure has reached the end of its expected service life.
According to officials, the baseball diamond is no longer permitted due to safety concerns, and the wading pool has been closed since 2019.
The deteriorating asphalt walkways and outdated children’s playground further highlight the need for a comprehensive upgrade.
As part of the retrofit, Exeter Park will feature a new splash pad, a modern playground, and a leash-free area with pet waste receptacles.
Mayor Shaun Collier expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I am looking forward to seeing this older neighbourhood park get revitalized with new features and improvements.
The addition of new paved walkways, enhanced lighting, and decorative elements will improve accessibility and safety. Collaborating with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, the Town has also integrated sustainable features such as pollinator gardens, a bioswale, and informational signage.
Andrew Jackson, Supervisor of Infrastructure Design and Construction for the Town of Ajax, highlighted the broader impact of the project. “Outdoor activity is so important, and community parks like Exeter have the potential to create and promote opportunities for outdoor activities for all ages.”
In line with the Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program, the project also incorporates eco-friendly elements to support local biodiversity and educate the public on environmental stewardship.
Construction is set to begin this year, with the Town of Ajax committed to ensuring minimal disruption to the community.
Ajax.ca notes on its website that the vision for Exeter Park is to become a place where residents can connect, play, and grow together for years to come.
