A major Oshawa road is closing down over the weekend for repairs.

The Ministry of Transportation has recently been working on fixing the overpass structures on Simcoe St. and Albert St. over Hwy. 401. They’ve hired Brennan Paving and Construction Ltd. to excavate the area and install a 900-metre storm sewer across Simcoe St.

In order to complete the job, Simcoe St. will be shuttered from First Ave. south to Bloor St. The westbound on-ramp off Simcoe St. will also be closed down. A traffic detour will begin at First Ave. in the north and Bloor St. in the south. Additionally, Lviv Blvd., a small street home to St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, will be closed to all but local traffic.

The closure starts at 6 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26 and will last until 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 28. The city will be installing signage about the closure and signs to outline the detour path.

The repairs first started in June. They are set to continue across five stages until Nov. 2024.
