Man, 86, in critical condition after Pickering crash

An 86-year-old man is in critical condition after he was struck while crossing the road in downtown Pickering.

The man crossed The Esplanade near Glenanna Rd. shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 3. However, before he could make it to the other side, a Dodge pickup truck making a left turn ran him over.

Paramedics rushed the man to hospital in Toronto. He remains there in life-threatening condition. The truck driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The Durham police Collision Investigation Unit closed the area down for some time.
