A man is in custody after allegedly assaulting a woman and barricading himself in his Oshawa home.
Durham Regional Police were called to a home near Marland Ave. and Montrave Ave. in the city’s south end around noon on Oct. 3 for reports of an assault. When officers arrived, they found a woman with minor injuries.
By that time, the suspect had barricaded himself in the bedroom. He reportedly had access to weapons in the room. Police tried to negotiate with the man to come out but this proved unsuccessful.
While he was barricaded, a large police presence filled the area. They did not specify the nature of the investigation at the time.
Ultimately, the York Regional Police Emergency Response Unit came in to assist. They were able to breach the door and take the suspect into custody.
Richard Charbonneau, 46 of Oshawa, is charged with assault and uttering threats. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
