Man allegedly assaulted woman, fled in a boat on Lake Scugog

A man is in custody after he allegedly assaulted a woman on shore and then fled the scene in a boat on Lake Scugog.
Shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 30, Durham Regional Police received an unknown trouble call near Regional Rd. 21 and Hwy. 12 in Port Perry. The reports indicated a man was assaulting a woman. When officers arrived on scene they found an injured woman on the side of the road.
The man had fled the area by the time police arrived and was last seen at the Port Perry Marina. The police called in the Marine Unit to scour the lake for the man’s boat. When they found it they arrested a man without incident and towed the boat back to the marina.
A Toronto man, 29, was charged with assault and failure to comply with a breath demand. Police have not released the suspect’s name. He was released from custody with conditions.
