Man charged with kidnapping after child goes missing in Oshawa

A 31-year-old man has been charged with kidnapping a child and stealing a vehicle from an unconscious woman Friday evening in Oshawa.
Durham Police were called to assist an ambulance responding to an unresponsive woman found laying on some grass in the Lakewoods Park and Birchcliffe Avenue area in south Oshawa. When the woman regained consciousness, she said that her two-year-old daughter, vehicle and possessions were missing.
After learning she had been with a man in the park, police determined he had taken the woman’s daughter and vehicle and began a frantic search.
The child and the suspect were eventually found near Athol Street and Mary Street in the city’s downtown and the man was arrested.
The child was unharmed.
It is unclear what relationship the suspect had with the woman or the child and investigators are looking for witnesses to this incident and the events leading up to it.
The suspect, of No Fixed Address, faces ten charges in all: Kidnapping; Abduction of a Person Under 14 Years of Age; Theft of Motor Vehicle; Possess Property Over $5,000; Theft Under $5,000 x2; Possession of Credit Card x2; Fail to Comply with Probation Order and Drive Motor Vehicle – No License. He was held for a bail hearing.
