Man faces charges in death of woman found on an Ajax road

Police have charged a man in connection with the death of woman after a collision in Ajax.

A 57-year-old woman was found lying on the roadway on Sept. 20 near the intersection of Kingston Road and Harwood Avenue, suffering from severe head trauma. The 57-year-old woman was rushed to hospital in Toronto but sadly died of her injuries.

Police put out a call for information on a pickup truck seen fleeing the scene.

And today (Sept. 27), police announced a man has been charged in connection to the death.

Investigators reviewed surveillance cameras in the area and determined that a man driving a white Dodge pickup truck was involved in this incident, Durham Regional Police said in a press release.

Police say the truck was travelling northbound on Harwood Avenue turned into a plaza near Harwood Avenue and Kingston Road. The woman was then struck in the roadway.

The truck fled soon after.

James Patton, age 56, of Ajax, has been charged with careless driving cause death, leave accident scene/fail to offer assistance – fatality, public mischief and driving while under suspension, police said.
