Man held at gunpoint in his Whitby driveway, two arrested

A Whitby man was held at gunpoint while sitting in his driveway after he was followed home from a shopping trip.

The victim was returning to his car from a shopping plaza near Brock Street North and Rossland Road East in Whitby. As he left the plaza, he noticed a red GMC SUV following him.

He tried to lose his pursuer but noticed the SUV again when he parked in his own driveway. He waited in the car until a man in the SUV pointed a gun at him through the passenger window. The SUV then drove away.

The victim then contacted police who quickly found an SUV matching his description. Using drones, they tracked the suspect car to a home by Centre Street North and Rossland Road East. The home is only about a block from where the victim was followed.

Later officers raided the home and found two suspects inside along with several firearms and ammunition.

Anthony Maguire, 27 of Whitby is charged with:

  • pointing a firearm
  • possession of a dangerous weapon
  • five counts of possession of a firearm without a licence
  • two counts of careless ammunition storage and
  • driving with a firearm

Zachary Cousineau, 26 of Whitby, is charged with:

  • five counts of possession of a firearm without a licence
  • careless ammunition storage and
  • firearm possession while prohibited
