A man in hospital this evening after his car rolled over on Hwy. 401 in Oshawa.

The driver was headed west toward Whitby when his car rolled over near Stevenson Rd. In announcing the crash, OPP Media Officer Kerry Schmidt said the man was injured but did not know how badly.

The Ornge air ambulance helicopter was initially called but quickly cancelled. The driver was rushed to the hospital by land instead.

As a result of the crash, the right lane of Hwy. 401 is closed for an unknown length of time. Schmidt said until he knows that, there is no estimate for how long the investigation and clean-up may take.

Reports indicate the car left the roadway and rolled several times, even becoming airborne, before it crashed into the barrier fence.

Schmidt later confirmed two people were inside the car. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The OPP remains on scene and should reopen all lanes soon.

Per the OPP, more information will follow once it is available.
