Man killed in steamroller work accident in Whitby

A man is dead following a workplace accident with a steamroller.

Durham Police say they responded to a work site on Hopkins Street and Consumers Drive, an industrial area just north of Highway 401. Police did not specify exactly where the incident occurred.

First responders arrived shortly after 11:30 a.m. and found the man unconscious.

They attempted lifesaving measures but the man was later pronounced dead. Whether he died in hospital or at the scene was not specified.

Since this is a workplace injury, the Ministry of Labour has taken over the investigation.
