Man struck in head with gun after attempted shooting during robbery in Oshawa, police say

A man is on the road to recovery after being struck in the head with a firearm during an attempted armed robbery in Oshawa late Friday night.

Officers were called to the area of Oxford Street and Malaga Road around 11 p.m. following reports of an armed person.

Durham Regional Police say two suspects approached the victim and demanded his belongings. One of the suspects allegedly tried to shoot the victim, but when the firearm failed to discharge, the victim was struck in the head with the weapon.

Subsequently, the suspects fled the scene before officers arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not released further details on the victim, including his age and place of residence.

Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area at the time or may have surveillance or dashcam footage to come forward.
