Man tries to steal a police officers gun in Whitby

A man has been arrested after attempting to disarm and steal a police car from a female officer early Wednesday evening (June 5) in Whitby.

The incident, which occurred around 6 p.m. on Victoria Street East, saw a Durham Regional Police officer approached by a male who would then attempt to steal the police cruiser.

The male tried to get the female officer out of the vehicle and take away her gun.

After failing in his attempt, the man would then flee the area in his vehicle. He was arrested a short distance away.

Police said they will release further details when available.
