Man who crashed stolen car in Pickering sought

A search is underway for the unidentified man who crashed a stolen car in Pickering early this morning.

Durham Regional Police officers spotted a stolen car near Valley Farm Rd. and Finch Ave. shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 21. The area is a quieter residential area full of detached homes and a daycare.

When they approached the car, the driver took off. The officers did not pursue the car and it crashed violently a short distance away. The car sustained major damage to the front driver’s side with the wheel almost completely shorn off.

The driver was able to pull himself from the wreckage and run from the crash site.

Investigators describe the suspect only as a Black man. They did not specify the make or model of the car.
