March break is already underway at Durham Region schools, with Friday called a ‘designated non-instructional day’ by the Catholic board and simply listed as part of March break on the public school board calendar.

March break officially runs from March 11-15. Classes will resume Monday, March 18.

The same dates apply at the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board and the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board (PVNCCSB), which are responsible for students in Clarington.

Both the Durham District School Board and the Durham Catholic District School Board have also moved the scheduled PA Day for April 19 to April 8 because of the upcoming solar eclipse. Both boards declared the move was made to “accommodate student and staff safety.”

School boards representing Clarington have moved their PA day – originally scheduled for April 26 – to April 8 for the same reason.

The total eclipse (the first since 1979) will happen during dismissal time (2 p.m. to 4 p.m.) and there is concern both for safe travel and for eye exposure.
