Business and community leaders in Ajax and Pickering were putting for dough last week at the 28th annual Mayors’ Charity Golf Classic, raising more than $240,000 for new automated drug dispensing units being installed in the women’s and children’s unit for Ajax Pickering Hospital.

The event, held September 14 at Whitevale Golf Club in Pickering and sponsored by local developer Durham Live, will help fund the drug dispensing units being installed in the women’s & children’s unit and the maternal & newborn unit at Lakeridge Health Ajax.

Staff from the hospital’s Pharmacy Team were on hand throughout the day demonstrating the dispensing units. Using patients appropriately for the day named Betty Birdie and Martin Mulligan, pseudo-medications (aka mints & skittles) were programmed into each patient profile so that golfers could mimic the process of dispensing medications not unlike what will happen at the hospital.

By automating the dispensing process, these medication-dispensing cabinets ensure unparalleled accuracy and precision in medication administration, minimize the risk of adverse drug events and enhance patient outcomes.

The cabinets’ advanced security and controlled access mechanisms provide an additional layer of protection, preventing unauthorized access and theft, fortifying patient safety even further.

Tournament Chair Vic Sgro noted at the post-ply dinner that more than a third of the charity tournament’s sponsors have been involved in the event for 20 years or more.
