Metrolinx is adding more weekday trains from Durham Region to get transit users to the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, running from August 16 to September 2.
A new westbound train will depart the Oshawa GO station at 5:25 p.m. daily, arriving at Union Station at 6:27 p.m. You can then connect with the Lakeshore West train departing Union Station at 6:55 p.m., arriving at Exhibition GO at 7:03 p.m.
A new eastbound train will help get you home, leaving Union Station at 10:05 p.m. and 10:35 p.m., making all stops to the Oshawa GO.
Travellers going to the Ex are asked to plan ahead and check schedules in advance to find the best route to the annual fair.
As well, Canadian Armed Forces members and veterans ride for free for the Warriors’ Day Parade on Saturday, Aug. 17 as Metrolinx honours those who have served and who continue to serve. Service will be free that day for veterans, retired and serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and one companion of their choosing.
Immediate family members of veterans who have died may also ride for free.
Online weekend and weekday group passes for all riders are available, with kids 12 and under riding for free. There are also discounted CNE admission options.
The Canadian National Exhibition is an annual event that has been held since 1879, making it one North America’s oldest annual fairs. Held on the third Friday of August leading up to and including Labour Day on the Exhibition grounds on Toronto’s lakeshore, the Ex attracts 1.6 million visitors each year, making it Canada’s biggest annual event and one of the top fairs in North America.
