Chica's Chicken

Lovers of Nashville fried chicken can prepare to wipe off their brow and tantalize their taste buds with the grand opening of Michelin award-winning Chica’s Chicken in downtown Whitby on November 2.

The original Toronto location of this hot chicken joint (2853 Dundas St. W in the Junction neighbourhood) earned a ‘Bib Gourmand’ in the city’s first-ever Michelin Guide and the family-owned company is bringing its blend of bold flavours, spicy goodness and Ontario-raised (Sargent Farms, Milton) chicken to Whitby.

“This isn’t just another chicken joint – it’s a love letter to bold flavors, handcrafted spice blends and Ontario farm-fresh chicken that’s grain-fed, hormone-free, and 100 per cent halal,” declared the team supporting husband and wife founders Matthew and Carolyn Pelachaty.

Each batch is spiced with hand-blended Carolina Reapers and Ghost Peppers, delivering pure, fiery flavor, along with generous portions to provide a unique culinary experience.

Chica’s Chicken offers five different sandwiches, including the Nashville-spiced OG, Sweet Heat, Crispy Buffalo, Jalapeno Popper and Hot Honey.

The restaurant also offers wings, bites and chicken pieces and plenty of sides.

During a trip to Nashville, Chef Matt experienced Nashville Hot Chicken for the first time – it was love at first taste. The combination of crispy skin, moist chicken and balanced hot seasonings blew his mind, leading to the opening to the first (of two) Toronto locations as a faithful tribute to the Nashville hot chicken tradition. The chickens are dry-brined for two days and, according to the Michelin entry for Chica’s, “seasoned with a dark, brooding mix of spices.”

The Whitby Chica’s location will be at 300 Dundas St. E., Unit 1, just a few blocks from the town’s four corners.
