The Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations are pocketing nearly $800,000 for hosting the Blue Heron Casino.
The money represents the First Nation band’s share for the fourth quarter, which ran from January 1 to March 31 and brings the total paid by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation for the fiscal year to $3,659,431.
Since the casino opened in May 2000, MSIFN has received $30,695,975.
The payments help build “strong communities,” said Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy, who added that the hosting payments, based on a graduated scale of gaming revenue applied to all Ontario gaming sites, “help support local programs and critical infrastructure, making a real difference for gaming host municipalities.”
Since 1994, host communities have received nearly $2 billion in non-tax gaming revenue.
