Motorcyclist killed in highway crash near Oshawa

The driver of a motorcycle is dead following a crash that closed a busy Ontario for several hours, police say.

Investigators with the OPP say the single-vehicle collision happened shortly before 4 p.m. on the westbound Highway 401 at the northbound Highway 418 ramp in Clarington, approximately 26 kilometres east of Oshawa.

Police say the driver of a motorcycle crashed into a ditch and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A reconstruction team with the OPP Highway Safety Division investigated the crash and had the highway closed for several hours, reopening around 8 p.m.

No other details about the crash of the victim have been released by police.
