A new community park in Newcastle with a tournament-grade ball diamond, tennis and pickleball courts and a skateboard park brought out a huge crowd to the launch, with more than a thousand residents on hand for the grand opening.
The $3.5 million Newcastle Community Park, located on the west side of the Diane Hamre Recreation Complex in village of Newcastle, had its official opening Saturday.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate the opening of our Newcastle Community Park,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster. “Parkland is so important to Clarington – and this massive new park represents our commitment to fostering a vibrant and healthy community where residents can come together, stay active and create lasting memories. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us.”
In addition to the sports venues, the new park also boasts paved walkways and a shade structure alongside the existing Newcastle Dog Park.
Following a ribbon-cutting and celebratory first pitch with Foster, attendees were treated to pickleball lessons, face painting, swimming, jumping castles, an obstacle course and colouring station to kick-off the #HeartYourParksClarington campaign.
The Newcastle Community Park is located at 1780 Rudell Road. For more information on parks and facilities in Clarington visit www.clarington.net/parks
