Multiple early morning gunshots heard in north Whitby

Multiple gunshots were heard in north Whitby early this morning just north of a high school, with two kinds of shell casings found, indicating at least two kinds of firearms used.
The shots were heard at 1:15 a.m. on Haverhill Crescent, located just east of Baldwin Street and north of Taunton Road.
Durham Police responded to an armed person call after receiving information about a “number of gunshots” heard in the area. Officers arrived on scene and located about 20 shell casings in the area. “Two different types of shell casings were located, leading us to believe to that at least two types of firearms were used,” police said.
Two residences have been located with bullet holes. The residents were home at the time of the shooting and police report they are uninjured. Police are appealing to any witnesses or anyone with video footage to contact DRPS.
“We are committed to dedicating more resources to preventing and investigating gun related crimes,” said Durham Police Chief Peter Moreira. “Each illegal gun we take off the streets prevents untold numbers of shootings and victimization.”
The investigation is ongoing.
