A photo exhibit showcasing the skills of Black high school students in south Oshawa opens Tuesday at GL Roberts Collegiate.

The My Spaces Too: Natural Landscapes and Urban Spaces exhibition is an event showcasing and recognizing the voice, creative eye, and artistic works of Black high school students living and studying in Durham Region. The photographs share a narrative of natural and urban landscapes through a lens of blackness and artistic inclusion.

The Durham District School Bord, the photographers and their community partners hope the exhibit sheds light on the extent to which the natural world and our local surroundings inspires us.  The exhibit promotes and encourages Black students to adopt a mindset of boldly exploring different spaces, both tangible and intangible, that are sometimes perceived to be non-Black such as nature, photography, suburbia, wind surfing, and more.

The exhibit opening runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 2 at the high school, located at 399 Chaleur Avenue.
