The accolades keep coming for Ontario Tech University, which was named once again as one of Canada’s top research universities by Research Infosource.

The Oshawa university climbed to the top of the rankings among undergraduate schools in research impact, reputation among partners and continuing growth in industry-sponsored research income, with the report reflecting data for the 2022-2023 fiscal year.

Ontario Tech was also ranked #1 in international government research income and #2 as a percentage of total research income (#1 in Ontario), #3 in international government research income growth (#3 in Ontario) and #3 in university partnerships.

The new report from Research Infosource, a leading research ranking organization and provider of research intelligence for business and higher education, also highlighted research growth achievements in artificial intelligence (AI) in the five-year period from 2018 to 2022, with Ontario Tech coming in at #2 in AI publications, AI research papers as a percentage of total publications and AI publications growth – trailing only Lakehead university of Thunder Bay in all three categories.

With total research income now surpassing $28 million annually, Ontario Tech also boasts strong growth in not-for-profit research income, international government research income, and international collaboration.

“The 2024 Research Infosource rankings confirm Ontario Tech’s rapid ascendency as an influential research enterprise that is results-driven, and committed to excellence,” said Dr. Les Jacobs, the university’s Research and Innovation vice-president. “Whether it involves exploring high-tech solutions to advance health care, researching sustainable energy sources to mitigate climate change, engineering responsible AI innovations in cybersecurity, or developing digital applications in education and social sciences, Ontario Tech prioritizes discovery through ethical technology, and making the right decisions today, for a hopeful future.”

Ontario Tech was also ranked in the top five in the country in half a dozen other categories, including a top ranking #1 in Ontario in the undergraduate tier in two corporate research income categories.

Overall, competing against the well financed big guns at the University of Toronto and McGill and other long-establish Canadian universities, Ontario Tech was ranked at #36 in Canada.

Ontario Tech has been ranked in Research Infosearch’s top 3 list among Canada’s smaller research universities each year since 2021.

Ontario Tech was also honoured in October in the Macleans University Rankings with a #1 rating for reputation as well as social science and humanities grants; a #2 rating for total research dollars and for library acquisitions; and a #3 ranking for medical/science grants.
