Yes, the numbers are not accurate and are likely very much underrepresented, but it’s still worth noting when records are broken and yesterday’s new COVID-19 case count of 957 in Durham Region was very much a record.

Ajax reported its highest-ever single day count at 253 and Oshawa added 215. Whitby (165), Pickering (148) and Clarington (115) also reported more than 100 new positive tests bringing the active case count to 8,938.

The most alarming number, however, continues to be the number of outbreaks at retirement residences and long-term care homes, which now stands at 40, with 155 residents and staff affected. The biggest outbreaks are at Hillsdale Estates, which has its numbers explode to 29 and Lakeridge Health Oshawa, which is reporting four separate outbreaks totalling 22 people. There are also major outbreaks at Glen Hill Strathhaven (16), Hillsdale Terraces (13), Port Perry Place (9), Fairview Lodge (8), Westney Gardens (7), Lakeridge Health Ajax (6), Orchard Villa (6) and Wynfield Long-Term Care Home (5).

Zero childcare centres are reporting outbreaks and there are three outbreaks in workplaces.
