A Whitby man has been charged after nearly 2 kilograms of fentanyl was discovered in his home.

The Durham Police Gun and Gang Unit raided a home near William Davidson Street and Rossland Road East in Whitby. While Rossland Road is a major artery through town, this stretch is home to a quiet residential neighbourhood.

During the raid, police say they found 1.8 kilograms of fentanyl. This much holds an estimated street value of $360,000. On average, about 3 milligrams of fentanyl is enough to kill an adult man.

Officers tracked the resident of the house down to his car in Pickering. They arrested him without incident.

Nathaniel Darnell McEwan, 19 of Whitby, is changed with fentanyl possession for trafficking. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing. Anyone with information can call police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5800 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
