After two days with five or less new COVID-19 cases the virus gave us a quick reminder they are not done with us just yet with 21 new cases reported in Durham yesterday.

Six of the new cases came from Ajax and five from Oshawa. The number of active cases, which had been on the decline in recent days, rose slightly to eighty-one.

There are just two schools with cases not yet resolved – Eagle Ridge Public School in Oshawa and Meadowcrest Public School in Brooklin each have two children at home isolating – and just one long-term care home – Fairview Lodge in Whitby – has a resident self-isolating. There is still one outbreak declared in a Durham workplace but details have never been provided.

The vaccination rate for the region’s 12-plus population is now 81.9.
