Monday was a better day for COVID-19 viral numbers, with the number of new cases in Durham Region almost cut in half to 59 and the overall active case count falling to 454 from 476.

Oshawa, which had been leading the new cases on most days recently, reported just nine new cases yesterday. Pickering, with 14, had the highest number, followed by Ajax and Whitby with 13 each. There are 16 people in hospital with the virus with three people in ICU.

There are five active outbreaks in long-term care homes but only three patients (officially) have tested positive. Two outbreaks involve patients who don’t live in Durham and are not counted in the numbers, as per Durham Health protocol.
