Located at 198 Des Newman Blvd, the 154,000 square foot facility on Des Newman Boulevard offers walk-in services urgent care services as well as diagnostic imaging and laboratory services. “I am thrilled the Whitby Health Centre is now open and providing much-needed health care services to our community, including urgent care that is open daily,” said Whitby Mayor Elizabeth Roy. “Time and time again our residents tell us that health care is one of their top priorities. As Whitby grows, this new facility will help ensure current and future residents have access to the care they need, close to home.”

The grand opening ceremony featured a guided tour which highlighted the healthcare services the facility will provide to Whitby residents.

“I couldn’t be more excited about the opening of the Whitby Health Centre. This incredible facility will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of residents by providing essential healthcare services right where they live,” enthused Oshawa Clinic Group CEO Keith White. “As our community grows, the centre will ensure that we are well-prepared to meet the increasing demand for quality care, making it a true asset to Whitby.”

The Oshawa Clinic originated from a partnership formed in 1927 by Dr. Grant Bird and Dr. Oscar Mills who had graduated together from the University of Toronto in 1921. Joined by Dr. W.S. Millman (diagnostic radiology) in 1930 and Dr. James Bayne (paediatrics) in 1934, the Oshawa Clinic officially opened at the corner of King Street and Charles Street in downtown Oshawa on December 1, 1948.

Since that time the partnership has grown to include the Courtice Health Centre, the Taunton Heath Centre and the Taunton Surgical Centre. Staff at the original Oshawa Clinic have been relocated to the new Whitby Health Centre.

With more than 150 physicians and 350 staff, the Oshawa Clinic group is the largest multidisciplinary clinic in Canada.
