New fusion restaurant opens in historic downtown building in Oshawa.

For those craving everything from lobster ravioli and jerk lemon ginger chicken to truffle fries and fusion-style burgers, a new restaurant has opened its doors in one of Oshawa’s most historic buildings.

Fusion Kitchen is now open at 62 King St. W., inside a building that once housed the Oshawa House Café — a neighbourhood coffee spot that closed in 2024.

The café operated for five years in the 186-year-old building, which was once described as the best tavern between Toronto and Kingston and is rumoured to have been a favourite stop for Sir John A. Macdonald during stagecoach trips in the mid-1800s.

Fusion Kitchen’s menu blends casual favourites with unique flavours. Starters include spinach artichoke dip, garlic cheesy bread, calamari (grilled or fried), lobster crab cakes, fusion wings and truffle fries. Salads range from a classic Caesar to a Cobb or Greek, as well as the restaurant’s signature Fusion Bowl.

For mains, diners can choose from handheld options such as the Fusion Burger, cheeseburger, fish burger, veggie burger, and the Fusion Sandwich, or opt for pasta dishes like lobster ravioli, spicy bolognese chicken parmesan, and red chili shrimp & mussel linguine.

The “Knife & Fork” section offers pan-seared salmon, herb-crusted chicken, steak & frites, lamb and the “Land Meets Ocean” surf-and-turf platter. Kids’ meals and vegetarian options are also available. Prices range from about $12 to $39.

The restaurant also serves a selection of ribs, chicken fingers and a smoked and crusted mac and cheese for comfort food lovers.

Fusion Kitchen is open Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and closed Sundays. The phone number is (437) 436-3342.
