Durham’s newest long-term care home will be known as Lakeridge Gardens.

Lakeridge Health made the announcement today about the 320-bed long-term care home at Ajax-Pickering Hospital following months of consultation and a community naming survey last year.

“We heard feedback, suggestions, and ideas from more than 600 residents from across the Durham Region”, said Cynthia Davis, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health. “Lakeridge Gardens reflects the voices of the communities and the people we serve every day. We are excited to continue to collaborate with our community, serve generations of Durham residents, and create opportunities for future residents, families, and loved ones to share important moments at Lakeridge Gardens.”

Lakeridge Gardens will provide state-of-the-art care and comfort in a modern and safe environment. The home will also be part of a campus of care operated by Lakeridge Health to ensure residents have close access to the specialized and complex care they need close to home by integrating the long-term care home into the broader Lakeridge Health system.

The long-term care home was first announced in July 2020 as part of the Government of Ontario’s Accelerated Build Pilot Program. Using hospital lands, rapid procurement, and an innovative modular design and build process, this innovative pilot will create more long-term care beds across Ontario in areas where they are most needed.

In the coming weeks, Lakeridge Health will be finalizing all elements of the home’s operations including care planning, staffing, and onboarding to ensure the home is move in ready in late March 2022.
