A Newcastle grandfather is celebrating a big lottery win after claiming a second prize worth nearly $102,000 in the August 29 LOTTO 6/49 draw.

Robert Genosko is a weekly lottery player who likes to play LOTTO MAX and LOTTO 6/49. He uses OLG’s Quick Pick feature to make his selections and always adds ENCORE to his tickets.

“I checked my ticket on the OLG app and was initially confused by what I saw,” Genosko recalled while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. “I checked my ticket on multiple phones to make sure what I was seeing was real! I was shocked and so happy.”

He first shared the news of his win with his wife and she thought it was $101. But when she looked a little closer “she was pleasantly surprised,” Genosko said in an understatement. “Winning is an incredible feeling. It’s both shocking and unbelievable, but it could happen to you!”

With his windfall he said he will help his family out and travel.

“I plan to enjoy every moment of life with my family.”

LOTTO 6/49 offers players a chance to win two multi-million dollar jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday, for the same $3 per play. The Classic Draw offers a fixed $5 million jackpot for every draw, while the Gold Ball Draw guarantees a $1 million prize, or the growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can exceed $60 million. The winning ticket was purchased at Esso on King Avenue East in Newcastle.
