No COVID-19 Delta in Durham – yet

The good news about the Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus is the highly contagious variant has not yet been recorded in Durham Region.

But that also means Durham is not included among the Delta ‘hot spot’ zones where the Province is speeding up second doses of the vaccines. Evidence is mounting that people with one dose of the vaccine are less protected against the Delta variant.

Durham recorded 21 cases of the virus yesterday, following just 13 the day before. The seven-day average is 22.7, with no deaths reported in the last week.

The Region has vaccinated 525,575 people – 61 per cent of all residents and 71.3 per cent of adults. Just under 100,000 have now received their second dose of the vaccine, which is nearly 17 per cent of the adult population, with Oshawa continuing to lag behind in getting their citizens vaccinated.
