It’s going to be a GO Train-less weekend for those travelling to and from Durham Region – the second time in three weeks Metrolinx has suspended train service on the weekend.

Lakeshore East rail service from Oshawa to Union stations will stop from Friday August 11 at approximately 9:30 p.m. until end of the service day on Sunday August 13.

GO shuttle buses will only be replacing train service for those travelling from the Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, and Pickering GO stations directly to Union Bus Station Terminal.

TTC will provide service to customers travelling between Rouge Hill-Danforth and Union Station as there will be no GO Transit service at Rouge Hill, Guildwood, Eglinton, Scarborough or Danforth GO stations.

Special trains will depart Union Station at 10:36 p.m., 11:16 p.m. and 11:46 p.m. Friday. These are the last scheduled trains to Oshawa. The 9:37 p.m. Lakeshore East trip is the last scheduled train departure from Oshawa GO to Union Station.

After train service ends, replacement GO buses will operate from Union Station Bus Terminal. These buses will depart at different times than the trains normally do, so plan ahead and  check your schedules before you travel.

A statement from Metrolinx said the trail cancellations are “critical” for track maintenance near Whitby GO and between Danforth and Rouge Hill GO stations, bridge rehabilitation at Rouge River/Birchmount Road, Stouffville rail corridor expansion and platform work at Eglinton GO.

Regular service will resume on Monday, August 14.

It was also a GO Train-less weekend on the Lakeshore East line July 21-23, with no train service from Oshawa to Union stations from Friday evening until the end of day Sunday, July 23.

Metrolinx performed construction and maintenance work during that shutdown as well, in addition to platform work at the Eglinton GO station and bridge work to prepare for the Ontario Line. This work can only be done when trains are not running.
