Oshawa’s first official cricket pitch is open for use at Stone Street Park near the lake.
The new temporary cricket field is a smaller sized playing field with an approximate boundary radius of 40-50 metres.
Council approved the temporary field earlier in 2022 after receiving a request from the public to create cricket facilities in Oshawa the previous year. City staff reviewed existing locations within the City’s parks and open space system and chose Stone Street Park, with a permanent regulation cricket field to be developed at a future location.
“Our first cricket field is an exciting addition to the great City of Oshawa,” said Mayor Dan Carter. “The City is pleased to provide this new outdoors opportunity to meet the growing demand for this exciting international sport.”
Located at 1535 Cedar Street, Stone Street Park provides a number of active and passive recreational opportunities. In addition to the cricket field, the park includes a playground, outdoor tennis courts equipped with lighting for evening play, and access to washrooms and accessible parking adjacent to the South Oshawa Community Centre.
