960 Columbus Rd. W. Oshawa

A one-of-a-kind country estate in Oshawa’s rural suburb of Columbus which topped the list of most expensive properties sold in Durham Region last month was also one of the priciest homes sold in the entire province.

The nearly 8,900 square foot home sold for $4.6 million on January 24.

There is plenty of detailed craftmanship throughout the custom-built home, which sits on a 9.65-acre lot and features six bathrooms and parking for 34 cars. Inside is soaring cathedral ceilings and high-end architectural finishes while outside is an entertainers dream with landscaped park-like grounds, an in-ground pool and a covered rotunda to enjoy the sunsets.

The home at 960 Columbus Rd. W. was originally listed for $5.3 million in October before the price dropped for a quick sale. The property sold for just $685,000 in 2004.

The only home sold for a higher price in Ontario last month was an estate on Russell Hill Road in Toronto’s prestigious old money Forrest Hill neighbourhood that sold for $5.9 million.
