Numerous weapons found after women threatened with knife in Oshawa

An Oshawa man faces several charges after police found numerous weapons in his home after he allegedly threatened people with a large knife.
An altercation between the man and three other people (a man and two women) broke out in a home near Johnson Avenue and Cubert Street. The area is a usually quiet residential neighbourhood just north of Highway 401 between Park Road and Simcoe Street.
The fight started shortly before 11 p.m. on Oct. 29. Durham Police allege the man pulled a large knife during the altercation and threatened the group. The trio then fled the home. All three received minor injuries.
They called police and told the arriving officers there may be guns in the home. The suspect remained in the house but officers were soon able to negotiate his surrender. He was arrested and remains in custody.
The next day, officers returned to search the house. Inside they found numerous weapons including:
- several large knives
- a rifle
- a revolver
- a replica shotgun, and
- ammunition
Ben Vignjevic, 18 of Oshawa is charged with:
- two counts of assault with a weapon
- two counts of assault
- assault of a peace officer
- mischief under $5,000
- two counts of uttering death threats,
- possession of a weapon to commit a crime, and
- possession of a firearm without a licence.
He remains in custody until a bail hearing. The incident remains under investigation. Vignjevic’s charges have not been proven in court.
