The City of Pickering wants residents to help bring ‘Pickering Forward’ for the next generation.

Work on an updated Official Plan Review, also known as Pickering Forward, is now underway and the city is inviting residents and business owners to help in the process of planning Pickering’s future.

The Official Plan is a critical long-range document that provides the framework for land use decision-making, ensuring growth occurs responsibly. The plan addresses topics such as where new housing, industry, and shops will be located; what services will be needed (such as roads and parks); how to preserve and enhance the natural environment; and when, and in what order, the community will grow.

Residents are encouraged to learn more and get involved by attending one of the upcoming information sessions, where city staff and public participants will explore the future of growth in Pickering.

  • November 27 at 6 p.m. (presentation at 6:30) – Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex, West Salon
  • November 28 at 7 p.m. (virtual) – registration required at ca/PickeringForward

Pickering has published a Growth Management and Urban Structure discussion paper online, which outlines how the city will accommodate anticipated growth in both population and employment up to 2051. The paper also details the regulations set out by the province and Durham Region and explores how, where, and in what form this growth will take place.

A survey will also be available from November 27 to December 13 to gather feedback on the discussion paper. Community input will be used in shaping the content included in the updated Official Plan.
