An Oshawa man was killed in an early morning shooting, marking the tenth murder in Durham Region in 2023.

Witnesses called Durham Regional Police shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 21 to report an armed person. The man was seen on Albert St., a road which runs from Olive Ave. to Bloor St. parallel to Simcoe St. However, police did not specify where along the street he was spotted.

Before the officers could reach the scene, a crowd of people was seen at the home. The crowd scattered before police arrived and investigators are working to identify who was among them.

When the officers reached the home cited in the call they found a man suffering gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. As such, the Homicide Unit has taken over the investigations. Police did not identify or describe the victim, noting only that he is an adult man.

Investigators are trying to talk with anyone who may have information about the shooting. They can be reached at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5223 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

As noted this is the tenth murder in Durham Region this year. The last was the death of an as-yet-unidentified man after a fight in Oshawa on July 15. This is two more murder investigations than this time in 2022. There were ultimately 13 homicides that year, four more than the nine in 2021.
