One person dead, another with serious injuries after house fire in Whitby

An overnight fire in Whitby Wednesday that started in a garage has left one man dead and a woman in hospital with serious injuries.

There was heavy smoke coming from the home on Ingram Drive in the West Lynde neighbourhood when Whitby fire arrived on the scene about one a.m. to find the woman outside the home suffering from what was initially called life-threatening injuries.

She was transported to a trauma centre.

Firefighters found the man inside the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office has been called in to investigate.
