One woman dead following a head-on-collision north of Oshawa

One woman is dead, while a man was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries after a head-on-collision near Island Rd in Scugog Township in the early hours of Saturday morning.
On May. 13, 2023, shortly after 3:00 a.m., police responded to a collision between two vehicles on Island Rd north of Demara Rd in Scugog Township.
Police say a Nissan SUV was travelling southbound on Island Rd when a four-door Hyundai going northbound crossed over the center line causing both vehicles to collide head-on.
According to the Durham Regional Police Service, the 47-year-old woman who was driving the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. A 19-year-old passenger from the same vehicle was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
The man behind the wheel of the Hyundai vehicle was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he currently is in critical condition.
Police say, the areas surrounding the incident were closed off for several hours while evidence was being collected.
